The lower balljoint on the W124 chassis with M104 & M119 engines isn't a replaceable unit!!
So if the balljoint is bad you will need a lower control arm!! |
Thats strange, i called the mercedes dealer here in seattle and they said they have the balljoints for 37 dollars each.. numerous aftermarkets list this application also(autozone, etc) . i told them they were for a 94 e320> looks like i might be buying a set of lower control arms.. is there anything else that might cause the car to wander or is it probably the balljoints> thanks for the quick reply> benjay

I would also check the rear suspension links. They often give a wiggley feel on certain surfaces. It is my understanding the they are not too expensive. How many miles on your car? |
112000 MILES

AS posted before, all of the "LIGHTER" cars before 1993 you can replace the ball joints, HOWEVER the cars with the M104 & M119 engines require replacement of the control arm to get the ball joint!!

M.B. Doc is right as usual. My '94 wagon had a bad ball joint and the whole lower control arm needed to be replaced. The job cost about $750 (Connecticut prices).

Does this lower ball joint that causes wiggly feels on certain surfaces also wear out the rear tires? I have gone through 3 sets of rear tires in less than 55,000 miles. I have had the aligment checked and rechecked - it's all fine. I have even now removed the ultra low profile tires that I've been running for factory tires/wheels but the issue is still the same.

Thanks doc! as always i apreciate your help! :D

Tolahouse - That is always the risk when using high performance tires instead of good touring tires. Some high performance summer tires are only rated to last 20,000 miles.
