I need to change out my A/C fan speed switch and I cant get the wood trim
off to get to the screws behind it. I am afraid I will break the trim. How do I get it off? Is it expensive to replace? -Chris P. 1988 190E 2.3 |

The wood will peel off of the aluminum backing...be careful. use a 90 degree hook to get behind the aluminum plate and gently pull. I think it should come off from the right side first. The screws are located inside of the center vents.

I found the two screws by the center vents. Do I need to remove the wood trim around the fan speed switch to replace it? Or do I need to remove the whole center console?

There are two screws behind the wood if memory serves me correcly. you will have to get the switch out from the rear so the center section will have to be pulled back far enough to do this the console does not have to come out. I don't think. There may be two more screws located on the bottom. I have not replaced one of these switches in at least a year so all of this is from a cloudy memory.
