Or better yet, rent a small hole in the wall in Lassen, Lake or Modoc Counties and get passed. That will give you a few years before you have to go through this again. I've NEVER had any troubles with 5 different Benzes. I take it to my mechanic Ruben who has a sniffer. We pre-check it and if everything is OK we take it over to the smog guys. One thing to do is to heat that sucker up. I usually take a freeway romp, take it to Ruben, then drive in 1st or second gear to the smog place. the hotter the car, the easier to pass. My latest is a '97 CL600. I was really quivery on this car with 12 cylinders. I watched through a window as the car was tested. A couple of times the operator walked over and tapped the gauges. Didn't understand this until I saw the results. All sorts of "0"'s. I think he thought the gauges were sticking.
