Cleaning differential vent/breather?

I've pulled the vent off...does it come apart at all or do I just soak it in some cleaning fluid?

What's the general process to make sure it's not blocked?

The ones I've seen are not complicated: Just blow through it!

Cleaning fluid / brake cleaner / engine cleaner all good - just make sure it is dry before you refit.

It won't drain so I assume it's blocked or almost blocked.

Does it come apart or is new the only choice?

Also explains my leaks. I'll still be replacing the axle seals since its out, but good to know for future reference.

Got any pictures of it in place and by itself?

Mine looks like this (W201 almost the same but I guess with the larger casing - although some W124s shared the same smaller casing with the W201)

Yep looks identical. I don't want to lever on the cap and break it. I can't tell if it's designed to come off or not.

I'm sure that it is a pressed on fit. You are not meant to dismantle it. Still that should never stop us! Though I think it might be best to have a welder ready just in case once it is off it doesn't want to stay on any more...
