I like diesels for the simplicity and the uniqueness, but drivability and creature comforts in the later gas car plus the miles (engines typically don't wear out, but everything else does) would push me to your later lower-mile gas choice (if in very good condition/good history).

Condition and maintenance would be my dominant decision maker.
