What is this wire coming from my headlight?

Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew what this yellow wire coming from my headlight is? It's on my 1983 W123.

It's clearly an aftermarket installation, as someone has drilled a little whole for the wire in the headlight casing. The wire goes out from the headlight main bean wiring to the black box on the inner wing. Any ideas?

Also, is it likely that I could remove it without screwing anything up?

I want to say it's for an alarm system on my car, but there's no alarm active on it, so perhaps it's defunct wiring.

Thanks!

Could be part of an alarm system that causes the headlights to flash when the alarm goes off.

The alarm doesn't function, so I guess I'd be ok to remove it?

I'm thinking the Canada mandated daytime running lights. The small box reduces voltage and powers the high beams.

Alarm .

It does not look like an alarm. The yellow wire looks like a power source because it terminates in a light socket where the only other wire is the brown (negative) wire, so the yellow is a positive supply for whatever light that it's going to.

It sure looks like it is wired so that the headlights flash when the alarm goes off. Does the other headlight have a similiar yellow wire? By the way, the back of the headlight pictured sure does not look like any W123 headlight I have ever seen.

It would be really helpful if we had a clear pic of the black box the yellow wire runs to.
