Question W220 engine fan is loud like a bad bearing

I have a 2000 S500 W220, the cooling fan is loud like a bearing is bad but I'm not sure if the motor is inside the fan blade or if the fan blade is belt driven by a external motor. what would be the worst case senerio the fan blade stops working and the engine over heats? Could someone giveme some insight to this.

Does this car have an engine driven fan? If so , the electrics are just there to add air flow when the AC is on and car at idle.

Some cars with 2 blades have a motor on one side then a belt driving the other, not sure what your car has.

My car only has the one electric fan that is belt driven with the electric motor off to the right side near the top of the fan shroud

With only an electric fan, the car will start to overheat if driven under say 35 MPH on a hot day. Running the AC will make it worse.

When an engine is run in an overheated condition, heads crack / warp / gaskets fail. Pistons expand and start to wear, oil thins out dramatically causing bearings to wear. Overall it is a bad deal.

The good news is that the engine still has coolant so it will take minutes of stationary time to get temps up and longer than that to damage the engine. Still, overheating is to be avoided.

Have a look on car-part.com , this is a nation wide search of participating salvage yards. Once you find the part call them directly.
