'83 240 D man trans: output flange sealant?

Putting a new transmission output flange on 1983 MBZ 240D. Is any sealant required on output shaft splines or on output shaft threads the flange nut screws onto? If so what kind sealant?

BMW calls for sealant on splines and threads for this job for their cars but I can find no mention of this anywhere for Mercedes.

Holding off on the reassembly for the moment.

Thanks,

John Clay

It should be a locking style nut. You could use some of the blue loctite just to be safe.

On the splines themselves, no sealant and in fact I'd suggest using some never-seize.
