Valve Seal Question.
AFTER replacing the seals on two cyl's I read the manual.
The old seals were installed with the spring facing up & metal cup down. Not knowing any better, I did the same. The manual diagrams look like it should be the other way around. Which is correct?? And if the spring goes down, can I pull off the 4 seals already installed, and correct them, or did I already F them up and need new? Thanks, |
Anyone ?
Please? I know you guys have done this!
Thanks, |
Metal cup down the little spring at the top.

Thanks Dave!
Just goes to show, you can't always trust the manual.
Is there any particular direction that the seal should go. I noticed a tick mark a the side of the seal. Is this an indicator of "this side up" or just a machining mark? Thanks for all your help Dave! |
I have no clue about that one. I dont think they are sensitive to orientation.

Thanks Again!
Thanks for the quick responses Dave!
If the weather holds up, and the wife doesn't have me planting "HoneyDo"'s I should be able to button the engine up this weekend. On another "Manual" vs "Reality" matter, When I reset the cam sprockets (after jumping time, rolling in the new chain), with Cyl 1 at TDC, I set the sprocket washer marks (key) to match the marks on the cam bearing tower ( about 2 O'clock ). The manual says to set the sprockets key straight up ( 12 O'clock ). I guess I'll know after I reinstall the rocker arms and slowly roll the engine over by hand. No need to reply, just thinking out loud. Thanks again. |
