Checking ATF

The transmission dipstick on my '95 E220 has 'MB Workshop only' embossed on the top. Part no on the knob on top of the stick is 140 270 06 83, there is also a red plastic sleeve clipped into the knob. Is the checking procedure different from any other automatic? In the past I have always parked the car on level ground after running at least 10 miles, left it with the engine running in P for one minute, shifted the lever through all poisitions, returned to Park, withdraw the stick, wipe it dry, then checked the level.

Anyone tell me what I should be doing?

Mick:
We don't see this model over on this side of the pond. I am assuming that a 95 still wouldn't have the 722.6 transmission. The 722.6 doesn't have a stick anyways.
On yours, I believe there is a trans dipstick and can check it in the usual way. I believe the red lock you're talking about needs to be broken off to open the lever to remove the dipstick. In general, if it isn't leaking, I wouldn't worry about it all that much, but if you just "have" to check it.........
