B2 Piston Cover Leaks 91 300TE
1991 300TE, non-4Matic, 259,XXX miles.
Shifts excellent and fluid looks good but it leaks/drips from the B2 piston cover. I'd like to re-seal it as it's more than seepage. Is fixing the leak opening a can of worms? What parts are needed to fix it? Just the seal? New cover? Any tips on the procedure? Any advice is appreciated! Thanks! |
It is possible to replace the oring with the transmission in place, but it is a tight spot. There are a few pictorials available, dieselgiant comes to mind, but I can't help you search for them just now. One tip I can add that I don't recall seeing in the pictorials is to liberally grease the replacement oring to get it to stay in place when putting the cover back on. Use a thick grease, something about the consistency of Vaseline.
Here is the link. You don't need to go beyond just replacing the red orind as show. http://www.dieselgiant.com/Mercedesb2pistonsealreplacementl.htm |
Thanks pwogaman.
Can the piston be kept in place so the pushrod stays in position when replacing only the cover o-ring? |
Yes

I concur PW. The B2 will not pop-out, nor is it spring loaded..
