What's this (pic)
What's this part, just below the centre of the picture, with the hoses going into it? It's on the underside of a 190E 16v I saw the other day.

fuel pump? I am not a mech expert... but I am guessing its the fuel pump. I will see if I am correct with the other responce you should get. Hopefully I am right :D
|
No I don't think it is..., the fuel pump is at the back of the car (with the tank).. I should've said this is the front of the car.
|
what is that a race car? its got carbon fibre under paneling. i think we are looking at the differential, it also is equipped with a cooler on this car, not something that most street cars have.

Hmm I don't remember taking pics of the rear, but it could be.. - but you're right, it isn't exactly a street car, it's this:
http://www.maylane.demon.co.uk/goodw...1-0171_img.jpg I'm still wandering what that part is.. later Russ |
pump and cooler for the diff. The forward most part looks looks like a miniature radiator, has the 2 braided lines on the bottom, the rest is probably a sump, pump and filter for the diff fluid.
IMHO Dan |
That is a sweet car.
I like it. Alon |
Very Cool Car
I just love the German Touring Car races on Speedvision. Those guys are nuts and the cars are very cool. I bet those races are just a riot to watch in person.
Haven't seen it on Speed for a while, wonder whassup. JCD |
Definately the rear of the car - you can see the driveshaft and the bottom of the boot (trunk to you guys across the pond). I'd say the hoses are diff oil cooler, the lower one lokks like it is connected to the drain plug location. Maybe a limited slip diff.
|
it is a gear oil cooler for the rear diff.
braided lines lead to the diff, if you look you can see the vanes on the cooler and if you look just forward of the cooler, you can see the NACA cooling duct which feeds the cooler |
One clean lookin' machine.
|
it IS a very nice car. too bad lots of people would take the rear wing off of it.

DIFFERENTIAL COOLING SYSTEM
1 Attachment(s)
It is a diff cooling system. uses synthetic oil....not gear lube
Notice the exhaust? It is all stainless and looks like a street car exhaust and they used catalytics on the DTM cars. The driveshaft is titanium and the flex disc is made of 6-8 layers of Carbon Fiber. There is a special tool (laser) to align the driveshaft to the transmission. Your picture brings back good memories. I bet you that car weighs under 900kgs. ;) |
Speedtek - is that an Evo II, race prepared? What was it like?
Russ |
190e EVO II DTM
It is a ex-DTM car formally piloted by Bernd Schnieder.
The car is Insane. one of the easiest RACE CARS you could drive... ABS brakes, Power Steering, Fly by wire Throttle. Basically F1 in a car + Driver comfort. 2.5L 16 Valve 350 HP 8500 Rpm max (by rules) 380 HP MAX used for qualifying. |
