Hydraulic fluid reservoir question...

whilst replacing motor mounts on my 95 wagon the hydraulic line into the power steering pump went kaput. No problem, I ordered hydraulic fluid and hose from Fastlane right away and while I wait decided to clean the reservoir tank as there is a bunch of sludge on the bottom. The question is...what solvent do I use to remove the sludge?

Thanks in advance.

If I were doing this, I would use one of my favorites for cleaning gunky stuff.

Brake parts cleaner. Two different types. You can read up on the differences here:

I recently did this. Remove the entire reservoir and replace the hose that goes from the Res to pump as it will fail, if it hasn't already. It goes rock hard and splits. You can use rubber hose from local autozone etc if time is an issue.

Take the reservoir out and blast it with brake cleaner.

Once its all back in, I recommend you flush the system clean. Run the return line into a container and start the car and just keep pouring in flesh fluid until it comes out clean the other end.
