W124 Coupe wiper transmission gear
I have a 1993 300CE I bought about 15 years ago. The wiper was sluggish when I bought so I took it apart and cleaned out the old grease. At that time (60,000 miles ago) The half moon gear was cracked in half. The crack went all the way thru. The teeth were fine and It looked solid so I just cleaned and re-lubed everything and it's been fine since. Lat year it started to slow down at the top and act eratic, so I thought the gear finally gave up.
I ordered the replacement from ********.com for about #35. It is the Dorman part number 924-389 that everybody seams to be selling on ebay. It's a nice high quality piece that's made in the USA. Unfortunately it's not correct for the 93 300CE. There are about half as many teeth as the original and it has 6 holes around the outside. Thank goodness I didn't break the cracked one trying to take it out. I never did figure out how to get it out without breaking anything.
The Odometer Gear replacement the PeachParts has looks like the Doman without the outside holes but with the course teeth.
I guess I'm just going to clean it and put it back together. Is there another gear available with the correct fine teeth?
Thanks! Great Forum!
