PLASTIC BODY PANELS - WHAT TYPE USED?
On my white 2006 E350 Wagon, between the wheel wells, the frame under the doors is hidden by a long, molded strip of white plastic. Rocker panel cover. Somehow a fist size piece has been punched out of it. As the hole is mostly out of sight sort of under the car, it should be fairly easy to repair decently.
Does anyone know what type of plastic MBZ used so I can use solvent cement on the repair? It could be ABS, PVC, linear Polyethylene or Polyurethane. Has anyone done a similar repair – advice solicited. Many thanks in advance. Ron |
Try this
Urethane Supply Company ( USC ) - Plastic Repair and Plastic Welders http://www.urethanesupply.com/ They have lots of great info on how to ID and repair plastics. Most modern plastic parts are marked with the type so take it off and have a look. I repaired the front bumper cover and plastic support on my SL with their airless welder ( soldering iron type ) , it works great. Read the instructions and ID the plastic first as some repairs require melting the part you are fixing and others not. You also might be able to use their epoxy to make the repair. |
