190e Another 190e Aux Fan Question

I have an 89 2.6 and the aux fans will not come on. I have hooked each fan up to 12v and they both work. I have changed the 6 pin relay in the fuse box and the 4 pin relay that is in front of the fusebox that has the fuse in it. I have checked both fuses that are marked aux fan (1 & 3). I also have a new preresistor but have it jumped now so that the fans should come on whenever the car is on. The really strange thing is that whenever I place my key in the on position right before turning it to crank the fans will both come on for a second but then quit. I am really confused about this. The electrical system is not my strength and I hope that there is something simple that I am missing.
Thanks

One more thing. I can't believe that I forgot to try this earlier, but I just jumped the temp sensor on the top of the engine and both fans came on high. I tried to jump the wires on top of the AC dryer and nothing. Like I said, electrical systems are not my strong point so any suggestions or even criticisms are welcomed if they help me get closer to solving this.

Still working on this. This morning I put the preresistor back in still nothing. I applied 12v to the one wire side and fans came on then placed 12v on the 2 wire side and fans came so that leads me to think that the problem is wire between fuse box and preresistor. Am I correct in thinking that? If that is true then I will take it to a auto shop and let them run a new wire from fuse box to the preresistor because like I said electrical is not my strength. I just want to make sure that I have eliminated everything else so I don't pay a shop to chase down things that I could do.
