1993 Mercedes 300E 2.8L engine Red SRS light Need to be Reset
My 1993 300E was in a fender bender and passenger side airbag deployed setting up a red SRS light permanently on even after battery reset. I have now replaced the passenger side airbag that had exploded, the red SRS light still comes on and stays on permanently. It even came back after disconnecting the battery cable and driving the car short distance. SRS light is still permanently on. How do I reset this light? There is 16 (?) pin terminal, but without the red light that blinks. It has been very frustrating as the vehicle would fail inspection which is now due.
Thank you in advance for your help! Pete2 |

You probably have a bad sensor after the accident because the light kills in ~5 seconds of starting the car after it does a system check.
If they don't don't plug into the SRS to check its functionality, you could pull the bulb in the cluster and deal with it after inspection. |

it needs the airbag module on the trans tunnel replaced. blow a bag, replace the module. if the bulb doesn't come on with the key, that fails inspection, also. good luck, chuck.

1993 300E 2.8L sedan has SRS light on
I have already replaced the passenger side airbag module on the 300E. Will the SRS light automatically reset itself and go out or does the light need to be reset manually? In such a case, what is the procedure to reset the light?

the airbag replacement will not fix the car. you need the airbag module on the trans tunnel. it has no bags in it, just a brain. good luck, chuck.

Thank you for the earlier response.
I have now replaced the passenger side airbags and have tried to reset the red SRS light. After resetting, it comes back and stays - like you had predicted. You stated that it needs airbag module on the trans tunnel replaced. Where can I get airbag module? Can I get it from used car lot/ Junk yard and what are the steps to replace it? Any information you could provide will be very helpful. Thanks for your help in advance! Pete2 |
