Hello

I have multiple ATF leaks on my 300E transmission, some small some large.

The biggest one seems to be coming from the transmission's secondary pump.

I heard that the secondary pump has many leak sources and that it became problematic and Mercedes recommended eliminating it.

From what I understand the pump parts get removed and there is a "kit" plate, gasket and bolts that are then installed.

I did some searching and haven't found anything about this online.

Wanted to know if this is a good option. From what I understand the secondary pump is for the when the car might be towed (rear wheels rolling with the engine off. However from what I understand the 300E cannot be towed with the front lifted up as the radiator supports would break. And that the car is to be towed on a flatbed.

Any reasons why I would regret removing the secondary pump?

Does anyone have the parts numbers identified for this "fix".

Thanks!

One thing the secondary pump lets you do is tow start the car. I’ve never seen anyone actually do that.

If you lift a W124 by the front wheels, you won’t deform the lower radiator support. What tow service lifts cars by the front bumper or crossmember anymore?

Here’s a thread on resealing the secondary pump, in a W124 I think - http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/tech-help/307440-722-3-transmission-2nd-pump-reseal-question.html

My 300D's secondary pump (I believe) caused the governor to fail. I ended up gutting the secondary pump's internals and just re-attaching it.

My buddy and I actually used the tow-start mechanism once with his Jeep Wrangler and 300SE. For whatever reason the 300SE would not start so we towed the 300SE up the street and I dropped it into gear and BAM started up.

Only time ever we ever used that feature.
