124 CD description of oil pan gasket replacment

My oil pan is leaking and I need to replace the gasket. According to the MB CD, this isn't a very involved job, contrary to what I thought.

-- unbolt engine mounts
-- unplug oil sensor and pressure switch from sump
-- unbolt auto trans oil pipes from sump
-- remove steering damper
-- lift engine and remove sump downward toward the front

Is that all?? No mention of removing drive shaft or any exhaust components....

My lift method will be via floor jack at oil pan, and then using wood blocks at mounts to keep lifted. How far do I need to jack up to clear that crossmember? 3, 4 inches? Apparently it can't be too far if driveshaft and exhaust is kept in place.

TIA as always!

I did a query at some point about a year ago. You may want to search for it. I used 2 2x4 blocks screwed together on one side and a brick on the other. This wasn't enough after I had attempted pan removal so had to reinstall temporarily and insert 3/4 inch wood shims for the additional needed clearance.

Also, remember that oil pick-up protrudes a couple of inches into pan which makes removal tough and involves a lot of twisting and contorting (and maybe a little cursing) of pan to remove (be careful with pick-up end so you don't bend). Also, organize your bolts to put same ones in same place and don't overtighten.

Also, you will likely need to remove anti-sway bar at front (simple R&R).

Good luck. Feel free to respond for any additional needed info.
