Start simple 1 = fuses clean them all 2 = Earth points clean and grease , then refit the bolt.Look for vacuum leaks . Now get a fuel pressure check .Do you see any fuel leaking in the area of the fuel distributor ? . Come out at night in the dark and start the car up now look for sparks tracking on the ht leads .coil, and distributor top . Shorting can be coming from the plug and cylinder head if it has oil in the plug holes due to valve cover gasket leaking .

It's been starting good While cold. I'll have it holding steady at 2 thousand rpm. Let it idle down and step on the gas and it dies. Then I pull all plugs and they are wet with gas.

It's a severely rich mixture issue at idle from the sound of it. Usually it's a lean mixture problem. See if your flapper in the injection unit is sticking in the depressed position. If the flapper is hanging up, it's calling for more fuel, which would dump fuel in the injectors at idle. The flapper should be so close to the body bore at idle and with the engine shut off that it appears totally sealed.

How can I get a starting point and go from there. It's been turned so much IT doesn't even know where it is. Can I go to totally closed and start?

Oh, so you have been adjusting the mixture control? Back it off 1 turn and try again. Repeat until it starts to improve and then go to 1/4 turns, then 1/8 to get it dialed in. If you have a bad EHA, it may never dial in.

I think I found the problem. The fuel distributor isn't supposed to wiggle is it?

Thumbs up

Can you post pictures? It can help quite a bit with diagnostics.

Distributor only, or the whole injection unit? If the whole unit is moving, it could be the boot that connects to the intake is cracked or the clamp has come loose. That was the primary cause of poor/no idle on my wagon.

Wiggle or no wiggle I'm glad I removed it. The bottom of the intake was full of oil, about 1/4cup. When I bought my p. O. S. It was six quarts too full. Is that what happens when you put too much oil in? The motor-mount has a hole broken into it and the thing next to it is loose. I'll post pics when I find out how.
