Looking at a 1979 280se w116 euro

About 140k cloth interior no ac. Pretty excellent condition, euro bumpers. Manual windows no servo for cc

Any thoughts on euro 116 gas?

As far as I know the 2.8 is a solid engine. I may also be the exception that will prefer cloth and manual windows, but no AC would be difficult in NC.

Browse in the W116 sections on other forums and see what owners has to say!

Good luck!

unless you've had the m110 engine before, beware, it's thirsty for fuel and oil leaks abound. make sure the valves have been adjusted recently because the adjusters freeze and make life later a bear. otherwise, just typical old mb issues. cloth and man windows is ok by me, too. good luck, chuck.

I had one of these many years ago. It got about 16 mpg.

Beware of any ticking noises coming from the engine. The ticks sound like sticking hydraulic lifters. This car has no hydraulic lifters. The ticking noise is the sound of cams going flat from not being adjusted for years.

The cams are not a big job to change but they are not cheap. And you will also, if the noise is there, need a few new cam followers.

I remember hearing something about piston problems on certain years of the 110 motor. But, then again, I could be imagining I heard that years ago.
