Clutch Master Cylinder Instructions
 

I replaced a clutch master cylinder and am not clear on how to adjust the eccentric at the rod end.
This is a conversion - All parts from a '79 240D into an '85 300TD. The system has worked flawlessly for 14 years.

If you have not already discovered, the center screw (12 or 13mm hex) is the lock for the eccentric, and the larger hex (14 or 15mm) under the lock is the eccentric itself.
Loosen the lock, and then turn the eccentric until there is maximum free play at the pedal pad. By turning the eccentric in either direction, reduce the free play to about 1/16 -1/8 inch at the pedal pad, and lock the eccentric in that position.
The adjustment sets the clearance between the tip of the pedal pushrod and the bottom of the pushrod socket in the master cylinder piston; a clearance that cannot be measured directly.

Is this "pedal pad" the pedal stop at the bottom of the stroke?
I also presume this adjustment is done after the system has been bled.
Just thinking because in the past I've had trouble obtaining full clutch disengagement.
I'll get to this tomorrow.

The pedal pad is the rubber pad upon which you place your foot!
This adjustment is done with the pedal up (not depressed), and is the first step, before bleeding.
