What is the light control unit?

I'm restoring a recently purchased 1988 300CE. The front right parking light doesn't get current when the dashboard switch is on. Current flows to fuse #3, which is the fuse for the circuit. If this was an American car from the 1960's, I would know that there was a problem in the wire running from the fuse box to the bulb. The schematic says that the wire runs from the bulb socket to a "light control unit" before running to the fuse box.

What and where is the light control unit? The grey wire with red stripe disappears into a snake pit of wiring. It will be very difficult to trace it to the light control unit without cutting a lot of wiring harness apart.

Wisdom is appreciated. This is my first Mercedes. I'm new to this insanity.
