Squealing Brakes on a W210, Unusual!
My daughter ran the LR pads on her '98 E320, W210 into the rotor, leaving mild gouges. It obviously squealed. I only replaced the pads as I couldn't get the rotor off, it squealed. Took it to a good, experienced shop and they replaced the rotor, it squealed. They replaced that rotor with another and also replaced the pads, it still squealed!, they replaced pads on all wheels and Yes, it still is very noisy with a screeching squeal that terrifies pedestrians. Now out about $800 and at our wits end. I have to assume the shop properly installed them and also bedded them as they run a good shop and the owner took personal ownership of the problem. Any suggestions?

Brake squeal is normally caused by pad vibration against the rotor and can usually be controlled by ant-squeal paste behind the pad. Sometimes changing pads to a different type or brand can help as well.
This assumes there was no damage that might be creating a squeal. You would also need to verify there is nothing else rubbing on the rotors, and that they and pads are mounted corrrectly and the pins are lightly greased and not corroded.

Copper slip on the back of the disc pads should stop the noise .

The shims on the back of the pads should be in place, not all W210 rear pads come with them, so you will need to reuse them along with antisieze.
Also from experience 3 times - pagid brand brake pads will take a while to seat and burnish into the rotor - and they will squeal all the time until they do.

+1 for the shims.
I've had a similar situation with my W126 after I replaced a brake calliper. It was very squeaky during light braking until I added the missing shim under the brake pad. |

I have Pagid brakes on my E320 for 30K. They've always squealed the whole time, and still do. Refreshing the paste on the back of the pads did nothing.

Did you burnish them in? I had to literally roast the brakes to near death to get them to seat, after that not a squeak.

You'd think after 30K they'd be bedded in by now! When I find the opportunity, I'll have to go through the bedding in process and see if this indeed is a permanent fix. I kind of doubt it, but I'll keep an open mind.

Final Solution to the problem: My daughter took it back to the shop and they installed MBZ OE pads. No more squealing!!!!!!!!!! Sometimes "just as good" just isn't! Thanks for all the suggestions.

I switched to Akebono Europa pads years ago. Couldn't be happier!

I put ATE discs and Pagid pads on my '98 e300 diesel three or four months ago. I have had no squeaking or squealing or other bad sound from the pads. The brakes work fine.
