560sel break job
Hi All,
i have a 1988 560sel that needs a break job. is this something that is commonly done by owners? i sent for the shop manuals. is there any special tools? Do i need to be a brain surgen to do this work, i have done break jobs on my old amercian cars in my youth. i checked out the parts any the cost is real resionable. Thanks for your time, chris |
You don't need to be a brain surgeon at all, BUT
if you are going to do a proper search to glean all the information available in the archives here, you do need to know how to spell "brake" correctly. Actually, M-B brakes are simpler to service than many others, much simpler, for instance, than classic SAAB 900s with ABS and parking brakes built into the calipers.

Easy DIY
If your only doing pads, it is much easier than most US cars you've
done. Just push out the two pins that hold in the retainer with a drift pin, remove the retainer, slide out the pads and reverse. Push the pistons back into the calipers using the old pad. Remember to use the anti-squeek paste. That's it. No need to remove the calipers, unless you are replacing the rotors. Easiest brake job I've ever done. |
