1995 E320 W124 - ASR - DTC Codes 3, 5, and 14

Problem:
ASR light came on once, but the issue will not repeat.

My plan:
I am going to replace the brake pedal switch, my one tail light that is burnt out, check the electrical contacts in the rear lights for any poor connections, and check the tail light circuit boards.

Background:
I have quickly read through all threads on this forum with "ASR". I have a plan of attack, but will appreciate any advice. I am not a trained mechanic, but I am mechanically inclined.

I was driving on the freeway with cruise control. The cruise control shut off and the ASR light came on. I pulled off on an exit with my passenger tires in the grass, ground was sloping upward. When I tried to drive away, it sounded like my rear tire was slipping in mud. I had to floor the gas pedal to get home in limp mode.

When I pulled into my driveway, all dash lights lit up and the car stalled. I turned the key off and then on and everything now works fine.

The pin 14 DTC codes were 3, 5, and 14. I cleared the codes and only 5 & 14 remain.

Code 3 - throttle actuator
Code 5 - brake pedal switch
Code 14 - closed throttle position switch

Read up on the biodegradable wiring issues. If it hasn't been already, it's something that should be checked and addressed if necessary.

I changed the brake pedal switch and the tail light bulb. All codes have cleared and haven't returned.

Is it worth inspecting the wire harness, or could that create problems?

The wiring harness absolutely needs to be inspected. If the wiring shows signs of crumbling or cracking up, it needs to be replaced. If it isn't causing problems now, it will.

My wire harness appears to be a Delphi wire harness, manufactured on May 18, 2001 (ref: http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/tech-help/313174-94-e320-delphi-harness-2-dates-how-do-i-know-if-i-have-updated-harness.html). I attached a picture showing where the tag is, just in case I am reading a wrong tag.

Looking a few wires that are not covered by the loom/wrap, the insulation appears intact and pliable. So my wire harness is ok.

While looking around at the wire harness, I noticed the MAP sensor vacuum line was disconnected. Reconnected it.

My next step is to inspect the wheel speed sensors.
