Is there a less expensive alternative - slide paste???
We've been using and enjoyign the sun roof on the 560 regularly. Last week end I took the time to check out the rails, seals etc and noticed the slide rails were dry, with no apparent lube. The roof works perfectly and I want to keep it that way.
Today I stopped by the stealer to pick up some of the MB Slide Paste, the stuff highly recommended by the Techs. I durn near passed out when I was quoted $56.00 for a can. Granted, this was the 1 pound can of paste, but I don't think I need that much. Apparently MB no longer sells the paste in smaller quantity, only "shop" size. A phone call to Phil at FastLane revealed that neither FastLane nor PartsShop have the paste, and the stuff can't be shipped (HazMat I guess). Does anyone have a more affordable substitute for the slide paste or do I need to bite the bullet and buy enough to last me through the next century? |
Do a search
A while back there was somebody who bit the bullet then offered some to other mercedesshopers. I took them up on the offer and they sent me a one persons lifetime supply. I don't remember who it was and they didn't have enough of a return address for me to thank them.
Another alternative is to buy more Mercedes:D |
George Murphy (MBCA) sells in 35mm film containers for a couple of bucks. Don't have his phone handy, but it's in the Star magazine, or can be found in the archives of the Mercedes mailing list (http://www.mercedesmailinglist.com)
Being cheap & lazy, I used a water based, wax chain lube intended for my fleet of bicycles. It flows out nicely, dries to a solid, doesn't attract dirt & grime, etc. The sunroofs seem happy, so it works for me. |
