Car keeps idling
Hello, I am having a problem with my 92 300D 2.5 turbo.
After i shut off the car, it continues to idle (dieseling). Two ways to shut it off: 1) pop the hood and press the stop button on the fuel injection pump 2) rev the engine for a couple seconds, then it dies. What could be problem? Vaccum leak? Fuel pump system leak or diesel vapors? By the way, THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE CAR IS HOT, if the engine is cold, it shuts off fine. Thanks |

Vacum leak or leaking shut off valve on the pump. I wouldnn't try the shut off as a DIY as I've seen people manage to get the pin on the wrong side of the lever and stick the engine wide open throttle. If you do test and attempt repair, retest shut off function with a hand pump PRIOR to starting it. (you'll watch the shutoff arm pull down as you activate the valve)
