a friend is going to look at a 2001 E55 AMG tomorrow
 

...........Actually a friend of my daughter's is going to look over a 2001 E55 AMG for $2500 and asked me for input. Mileage is unknown at this point. I've told him about most of the W210 issues but is there anything about the AMG line that screams 'run from me'?

Sounds way too cheap. If he ends up being interested, he should invest in a real inspection by a Mercedes qualified mechanic.

Maybe it has 300K miles.

Looks nicely equipped with hearted ortho seats (possibly ventilated too).

Side mirror is a really easy fix.

Check what insurance will cost.

Ha! That's gotta be it. East Haddam is the town where it's located which is like finding an F350 dualy turbodiesel in NYC. Something isn't adding up.

$2500 E55 what's not to like. When he/she inevitably destroys it the wheels and tires are worth $1000 on their own.

I have been watching our local Craigslists for those in the South Texas Coast area. Never anything that year in any good condition for less than about $7K.
I usually do my own work on our MBs and I would RUN away from that one without even looking at it. Something isn't quite right about the price without many problems. Still, there are always deals to be had!

I agree Rob. I am trying to steer the kid away from it. These W210s have the instrument cluster display problem a lot and without seeing the mileage reading you cannot get the emissions done in CT. Also - I crossed check the license plate with the online CT DMV and it is not currently registered :thumbsdow

The first pic looks like middle of summer, the car has probably been for sale a while.

I'd be asking for the vin to verify it is a E55 , of they don't want to do that, the first 2/3 might show if AMG.

The instrument cluster display is an easy fix. Buy the part on eBay for $100.

Definitely get a PPI to see if anything is glaringly wrong.

I would buy it today for $2k. Yet, I am also a glutton for punishment.
