W126 damp trunk

After 2 days of solid medium intensity rain I noticed a dampness in the wells in the trunk. I couldn't easily figure out how to lift the liner away to start checking for leaks and it is getting dark making visibility difficult. What is likely to be the culprit here - taillight housing gaskets, trunk seal, anything else?

Cheers
Matt.

check the antenna mast grommet, they become brittle, crack shrink etc. A couple of bucks and you are good to go

Check the tail lamp assy gaskets, antenna motor grommet, trunk seal, and rear glass seal. The best way to find the leak is to get inside of the trunk with a flashlight and have someone hose the car until you see the leak.

a couple of options

Mattman,

I am research the same issue. Many folks say the rear window seal goes bad. I bought one, went to get it replaced, and the auto glass place said it was the trunk seal - he went in the truck with a flashlight and had someone pour water in different spots. (Let me know if you need a window seal, it is a Mercedes special order part they wouldn't take back).

I think I may actually have a bit of rust in the driver corner of the fender near the base of the rear window. Time to try and seal that.

Chuck
