Electrical question
 

My 2000 ml320 has had an electrical drain that has come and gone for about 6 months. I have checked everything on this car over and over. Both fuse boxes and the only thing I have found was the ac blower motor that had a constant drain and pulled the fuse. It keeps coming back every few weeks. Someone posted a while back that the tele aid or whatever you call it could be a problem. It was turned off at a dealer 15 years ago but at this point I think I should just take it out of the car. any thoughts on this would be great. Also any pictures of it and where it is will help. Any other things to check will sure help also

Do you have a clamp on amp meter? Clip it to the battery wire on the alternator and see if there is a draw with engine off. You could also use a metal object placed on the pulley shaft / rear of alternator to check for magnetism. Alternator output diodes can fail and allow the stator to draw power. I have had alternators with intermittent draws before.

thanks for the help. I have an amp meter. can you explain that. I hook the pos on the battery cable on alt and where do I hook the neg clamp and what do I set the meter to? Should there be no draw?

A clamp meter does not use any probes, it clips over the wire you want to measure current. If your multi meter has a non clamp amp function, you need to break the circuit and place a probe on each end of the wire. This gets fussy making a clamp meter much better. Jest be sure to get one that measures DC amps as not all do.
