I'm lowering my car, do bilstein's really justify the higher price?
 

I'm going with the Eibach pro kit.

It is going for $440.00 Canadian dollars.

Bilstein's are expensive shocks! 4 would cost over $500.00!

Can I do a classic cheap out and buy KYB's or Koni's or will I get

~BURNED~

Please offer advice and comments guys, thank you.

Yes they are worth the price. Bilstiens are "Install and forget" shocks. Meaning once you put them on it will be a very very very long time before you have to swap them out again.
KYB's will not last a year with the kind of rebound rates Eibachs will place on them. The higher end Koni sports are exceptional shocks and are about the same price as bilstiens . If I was looking for a cheap way out I would go with Sachs/Boge shocks.

Opinions will always differ when purchasing any sort of aftermarket products. Remember this, "you get what you pay for." As Yal had mentioned the Bilstein shocks be it standard or sport are w/o question the BEST shocks for just about any application I can think of. If it is for standard everyday driving. YUP !! Now, if you were at the track then I would say adjustable coil-overs woudl be the way to go. Happy modding !!!:D

i agree with the other fellows.

bilstein is the only way to go. they were oem on your car. they have a lifetime gurantee.

i just went for the bilstein h.d. shocks/struts, FANTASTIC.

much better handling and ride also.

I'm currious about this discussion because I'm thinking of changing struts on my '93 190E. Furthermore, I just put a pair of Boge Turbo Gas on the front of my Volvo, and find the ride to still be squishy. Will the Bilsteins provide a tighter ride than the Boges, or are they simply a more durable product?

when you lower your car with springs, it is best to get new shocks that accomodate, take into consideration the lowering.

you want new, longer lasting shocks that are caliprated differently so you don't have the 'floaty' ride, especially at highway speeds. you also want to take advantage of the tighter ride which allows for better cornering as well.

which is why I have Bilstein Sport shocks. I initially lowered my car w/o the shocks and had to go back in later to do it. makes a big difference....good luck!

What kind of prices are you finding for the Bilstein sports?

I am still considering a classic cheap out and getting Koni's.

What ever struts I do get, they will be calibrated for the lowered suspension.

I am in Canada, any canucks have some advice?

I have been using Bilstiens for the last 30 years and they have worked great. They even warrantied shocks that was over 10 years old. When on a budget I have used Bilstiens on the front and whatever I could find cheapest on the back. My W123 has Bilstiens Front and and Monroes in the back. My other brand SCCA car had Bilstien Sports front and BOGE rears and I won too many SCCA events with that set up and the Bilstien shocks are still being used in my friends SCCA car today and they are over 15 years old!
My new 190e race car is getting Bilstien Sport Front and SPAX Adjustables in the rear. I chose the SPAX because they are easy to adjust at the track and it came highly recommended by an AMG engineer.

Bilstien Front and Koni rear is also a good combo.
