Servicing the 7 speed transmission
 
Hello,
I have two cars with the 7 speed fill from the bottom transmission.
07 gl cdi
14 e350
Both due for the trans service.
I was quoted a price of 450 for the gl (red fluid) and 525 for the e350 blue fluid

I think I am going to just get a tool and do it myself.

Question, what tool do people recommend?

I have looked at the Baum, miteyvac, the amazon choice no name, atsmb19, Oem tools.

Any favorites?

whatever is the cheapest - its just an adapter that screws into the drain plug, same as Ford etc.

make sure the vehicle level is at normal drive angle when filling and checking, otherwise the fluid level is wrong.

I've refilled my 722.9's from a modified garden sprayer, I think it was $12 from Tractor supply. You just need a fitting to screw into the fill hole of the transmission and a 1/4 shut off valve to precisely control the delivery of the fluid. For the fitting I just drilled out a bolt, cut the head off and attached the hose from the sprayer to the end of the bolt.

Filling the transmission from the bottom using pressure is sure a lot easier than from the top with ill fitting funnels. Next time I do a 722.6 fluid change I'm going to try to fill it from the bottom.

you can use the factory tool that is used on the assembly line, it fits on the filler tube and the ATF is pushed under mild pressure by the hose reel. Im sure you can make a similar item with a hose and clamp and a funnel dangling from a makeshift lanyard hanging from the hood latch eye.

filling the 722.6 from the bottom will become a giant mess as there is no standoff tube in the sump as there is on the 722.9 - The standoff tube is what sets the level and only drains excess. The 722.6 will dump all its pan contents once you take whatever fill adapter you made for it.

Check the Motive Products fluid transfer pump at Summit Racing. Comes with tubing and a nice shut-off valve attached. All you need to do is get a short piece of larger tubing to interface with the fill adapter/tube (eBay) and it's ready to go. Really works nice.
Yeah, the 2014 will use the blue fluid. I used Fuchs; MUCH cheaper than MB, and they are apparently the OEM supplier to MB.
