Engine stalls sometimes while driving in 1990 300TE
About 4 times a year my W124 stalls while driving, almost always when coming to a stop or parking.
It cuts with no warning and all the dashboard warning lights come on, as if I had turned the key. Usually I can't tell it stalled except for the lights. I know it could be the OVP, and I remember that there is another part that delivers electrical power that has brushes that wear down, but I can't remember what that is called, it's not the alternator. |

there's a speed sensor in the back of the speedo that feeds the fuel system. always a stall at stop, always restarts. used to do them once a month in the late 80's.

Wow, I wish I had known that when chasing the same issue on my 300E 7 years ago.....it used to do it when coming to a stop, or sometimes when coasting through a turn.....more like 4 times a week than per year.....ended up trading it.

Thanks, can you give me more info about what it is properly called? A google search turned up several different speed sensors.

The part your thinking about is in the alternator, the voltage regulator

duchamp, when was the fuel filter replaced last? That could be your problem. Fuel filters should be replaced every 60,000 miles in that vintage automobile.

You mentioned OVP- did you replace it? If you don't know it's history, buy a new one
The 103 engine is really picky about electrical charge, and I'd replace the voltage regulator too.
