M1 0w-40 oil is OK for M104?
Pardon the newby question. I bought a cheap 1994 E320 wagon, I think she is ready to enter the daily driver rotation, but I'd like to change all the fluids first.
Can I put Mobil 1 0w-40 in this engine? |
Oh yeah, she has about 190k miles.

I'd keep it Dino fluid. IIRC the car left the factory with 5/40 delo in it. The pure synthetic isn't going to do much with an old motor.

No to the 0W-40 in my opinion. In FL I'd use a 15W-40 C rated diesel dino oil.
Good luck!!! |
I use 0-40 m1 and it seems to run ok

Max, recommend Mobil 1 15W50 in that vintage engine. That's what I have used in our 1995 E320 for the past 20 years. Oil changes every 7,500 miles.

I agree with Ferdman if you wish to use synthetic that is a good choice. The dino @15W-40 probably has more ZDDP for a flat sliding camshaft surface but it's not a synthetic.

If I remember right the m1 o-40 was the only one that had Mercedes approved specs on the label
