M103 into a W124?

Hi Guys.

I have recently purchased a e220 w124 and have started making it my project car, the car itself was in a bad way, although it ran well it had been badly welded and the engine harness badly repaired, after some consideration and the loom been in such bad state of repair its basically scrap.

Now this may sound a bit backward to some however I wondered if anyone had any info on swapping the engine for the 3l m103 engine.

My reason being i have access to an engine, and the simplicity of the wiring with it been mechanical fuel injection.

Now the car is more of a summer car and not a daily drive, it will be used very little is more of a toy.

If anyone has any positive advice that would be great I know the 6 cylinder 104 conversion may seem more sense but the cost is a concern and wiring etc, thanks Guys

That's not the case and the easiest way to fix your car is to swap/fix the wiring on your car.

do you know if the m103 came out of a w124 (different engine mount arms)

do you know if the transmission will bolt straight up?

cis ecu wiring and ezl wiring would have to be custom unless you have a donor (Do you have these modules/plugs ?)

custom exhaust?

different fuel lines?

as you see it's a massive project

All the OP needs is a donor car with the M103. He’s not creating something the factory do not do. Swap would be a bolt in, using factory parts. It’s intelligent grunt work

L.ikely will need the 3.0 auto trans. The 3.0 used a stronger tranny than the 2.6, so I would suspect the 220 trans would be inadequate for the torque of the 3.0.

exactly

assuming it's automatic

M103 3.0 uses the 722.3 transmission while his M111 2.2 uses a 722.4

I believe that the 722.3 is rated at twice the torque of a 722.4

And because the 2 transmissions have a different length then he needs a driveshaft that will fit

different trans mount brackets between the two I believe

and possibly adjust/modify the shifter rod
