94 E320 rev limit problem

good day

i am having an intermittent problem when i depress the accelerator when in neutral ,, the tach will not go above 4000 rpm and starts to hesitate above 4000 rpm
while driving this does not occur under load tested while in auto transmission setting at 3 speed.

Normal
Rev protection for torque converter on stationary vehicle.

You will notice this circuit is dropped after the vehicle is moving beyond appox 5 mph.

It's not really a good idea to rev the crap out of an unloaded engine anyway.

I noticed you said that this is an intermittent problem.

The only intermittent problem you may have is that what you are implying is that it sometimes allows you to go a lot higher than 4000 rpms in neutral.

The torque converter does not like to be revved high with no load, as stated before, this is to protect the torque converter from excessively high static pressures.

Now that I looked through the forum, I thought I remebered asnwering this question before, but my response was missing. You must have accidentally posted this thread twice, there are also other replies in the other thread.
