Creaky doors
 

I've been trying to get my 190Es doors to open and close like the W124s. The hinges are fine, but the catch mechanism is very creaky, especially around the 'hold' points of its swivel. I've removed the door cards, and oiled them as best I can, but it's not working as they still creak the same.

Is there some point you can oil where it will get to the mechanism, or some way of doing this?

If I remove the mechanism (as per the D.I.Y. instructions in DIY section), can I then oil it properly?

Hey, im having the same problem with my 300E, its actually pretty painful to open the door these days... the creaking is just so loud...

From what I can see, I think the best thing to do will be to remove and oil/grease the mechanism (as per DIY section on removing door straps). I guess this isn't so bad, at least it doesn't cost. Just takes a little time, is all. I'll have a go at it as soon as I can.
Badinfo, you've at least tried oiling the hinges and as much of the door strap mech. as you can?

I recommend replacing them if you're going through all the trouble to remove them. There just not that expensive, IMO.

Grease not oil
 

I don't think oil is heavy enough use the heaviest grease you can get. to do it properly you should remove them. In that case just replace them. Very easy to do. Remove the door panel and it is a four bolt job. I always use the appropriate type of 'loc-tight' for reinstall.

I'd have to agree with Gilly on replacement of the door check as the creaking sound you are most likely hearing is the internal spring of the check strap roller rubbing the ball groove because the ball under spring tension has fallen out of the check strap roller assembly (plastic end) and is no longer useable and now it's scratching the riding groove of the strap roller. If you remove the assembly with a new check strap in hand, you'll understand that replacement is the only way to go with a scratchy sounding door.

Just tackled a creaking door today. Took off the door panel, removed the door check. Turns out it was very dry. I lubed completely and installed it. Door still creaked and squeaked. I then realized it was coming from the hinges. I blasted both with a super silicon penetrating oil and .... the creaks and squeaks were gone. Yeah!
