1993 300TE wagon - How does the gas door operate?

This may seem like a silly question, but what is the procedure for opening the gas door on a 1993 300TE wagon?
I can't find any sort of release button or lever so what opens the gas door to add fuel to the car?

Gas door is always open, unless the central locking is engaged. You should be able to just open it. If not, it probably means the solenoid for the door lock has stuck closed. They used to be vacuum operated, but I'm not sure about the '93 models.

Press on the forward edge of the filler door and it will open.

if the lock plunger is stuck i think you can release it manually from inside the rear area by removing the interior panel in the very back on that side. i think they have a pull wire in there for just such an emergency

The gas door lock on w124 and also w210 is vacuum operated

Just flip the door open, if its stuck, pop the hatch, pull the interior finish panel and manually release the lock

These benefit from a spray of silicone lube on the pin to keep the lock working freely.
