Diesel / Gasoline W123 Exhaust Interchange

Hello,

I am trying to source an exhaust for my friends 85 230E (123). it is proving challenging since its a grey market car.

would anyone happen to know if the system from a diesel 123 would interchange? or perhaps one from a 280E?

I'm assuming the pipes will have the same bends given the chassis being the same and mounting points presumably being the same.

You could most likely use the rear and center mufflers from the Diesel - single pipe thru both - but not the header pipe as its bends are different from the 230E. Possibly the pipes would work with some refitting, or just build it from scratch, although you won't have a cat from the Diesel.

The 280E system uses dual pipes throughout, so this would not be a good match.
