97 M104 Wiring Harness

Does anyone know if a 97 E320 with the M104 inline six would have had the defective wiring harness?

- Peter.

By '97 the degradable wiring harness was history.

By 97 they started using teflon wires so you should be good to go.

But keep in mind the head gasket and throttle body issues if you're looking at buying one of these cars

Definitely heard of 93-96 throttle body issues with biodegradadable wiring, but never heard of throttle body issues on the 97 M104??

I'm considering one. I'm aware of the head gasket but he car in question has had that repalaced. Had never heard of a throttle body issue. What is that about? I've only heard of Throttle body in relation to GM injection from the 80's. How does it apply to Benz's?

Never mind. I found a video on Youtube about it. Not sure I want to dive down that rabbit hold. Though I suppose if the car is cheap enough it might be worth chancing.

I've worked on MBZs for years and have owned maybe 20 different models since the early 80s. We still have a couple. If I could find 97 e320s with good mileage on them, I would buy them all day long. They're some of the best cars that I've owned. Pretty reliable and easy to work on. To me, the head gasket is just a maintenance item.

Would you consider 160K to be good mileage?

I've done plenty of head gaskets at that mileage and higher. The cylinder walls and valve always look perfectly fine. If you like the W210, consider a 98 to 02 e320. We almost see no problems with the m112 motor.

I have heard of decaying throttle bodies wires, and plastic gears melting inside.

Thanks. Interesting info to consider. I see you are in Bellvue WA. Any connection to Kent?

- Peter.
