W124 interior light/courtesy light

Hi folks,

I'm trying to figure out how to get my door operated interior light (map/dome light?) working on my 1995 W124 wagon.

The light works fine by the switch on the sunroof panel and all the door pin switches are in good order but doesn't operate when you open the doors.

The other thing I noticed is that when you open the door, the courtesy lights on the underside of the door panels come on, but the main light doesn't (fronts work, rears don't - not too bothered about the rears honestly).

Any thoughts on what it would likely be? I'd like to have a working interior light when getting in and out of the car if I can

Thanks!

check the warning module behind the dash all the way on the back , a black box about 1,25 inches by 3 inches long, when it goes out the dome light dosent light off when on automatic or when you open the door

take out the instrument cluster, look by the column kinda down towards the firewall, the plug will be pointing at you , the module is held by a 8mm bolt

On my sedan, the rear lights work only when the rear doors are open.

Also check the position of the main courtesy switch.

Check the Owner's Manual for operation of the courtesy lights associated with the various switch positions.

I've tried all switch positions and nothing.

It's a bit strange to me that the lights on the underside of the door panels work when opening the doors but the dome light doesn't! I would've thought they'd work on the same circuit (but obviously not!). I'll have to have a look at the module behind the instrument panel this weekend!

As to the main lamps for the rear, I'm sure you checked the position of the rear lamp switch on the center console. In position to energize the rear lamps when the doors are opened.

I just discovered that switch today actually It works - but only for the main lights on the left (rear door on the left and the left side one in the trunk). Right side ones don't work, even though the bulbs/switches are fine. Weird

Found a parts car (E420) that I can grab the module off.

Here's the dash with instrument cluster removed: https://flic.kr/p/2kXXueR

Where am I looking in relation to here? Also, what does the module actually look like? I really don't know

Thanks!
