Radiator Coolant Overflow Tank issue

My old OEM tank has developed the slightest hairline crack at the horizontal seam engine side. Fairly high up on the tank so it only loses a bit when warm then the level doesn't get to the leak point.

New replacements can be had for not much $ so I am a buyer.

Funny thing is, they all seem to have an extra fitting that mine does not.

My part No is 126 500 03 49, embossed right on the tank.

Everyone (pelican is NLA) is selling tanks that look like this ebay img: https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/9E0AA...kB/s-l1600.jpg

At the lowest left you see the place where my return to the rad hose attaches. But that next thing a tad up to the right pointing at you is non-existent on my tank. Is that a sight glass or does something hook up to there? I'd have to block it off.

Thanks

The tank in the linked image is for a car with coolant level sensor (standard equipment on 1986-91 W126). That extra hole is for the float switch. You'll either need to install a float switch, or machine a blocking plug with O-ring seal for it.

There's a plug kit that goes there for earlier cars. PN 126-500-00-84.

Thanks guys. I suppose the tank with my part number will be impossible to find new anymore?

With shipping it is over half of the delivered price for a new tank ! :)

Oh well ...
