w124 wagon rear SLS shock absorber removing
Hi,
I needed to change the rear shock absorbers on my w124 wagon with SLS. Breaking the connection between the rubber hydraulic line and metal hydraulic was not easy. First i removed the shock absorber and after removal i kept it turning actually twisting the rubber line too until it got disconnected from the metal line. Then i removed the rubber line from the shock absorber. Then i reinstalled the shock absorber and connected the rubber line at the same time on both ends and twisted to reestablish the connection. Is this the correct way or did i missed something? I have realized that non of the nuts are turnable so the rubber line itself need to be twisted. Is there a better way to do it? thanks |
I've not done this exact job; but, tubing nuts (the ones on each end of the steel line) are always turnable when new but corrosion sets in between the nut and the tube and the threads between the nut and the hose. Once the corrosion sets-in the tubing nuts seize. Penetrating oil, mild heat and patience will usually break the nuts loose but not always. I've seen lines crumble from the corrosion under the nut.
When working with those nuts, Kroil or PB Blaster a couple of days in advance can make a significant difference toward getting them loose. If the nuts are seized and you keep turning it pretzels the steel line to the point of ruin. Kudos that you figured out a solution. Good luck!!! |
Actually the tubing nuts are seem to be fixed

What symptoms told you that they needed to be changed? Leaking? Driving symptoms?
I'm just wondering how many miles these usually go before needing changing. |
