W221 Fuel Pump Control Unit - Version Coding

2009 S550 (221.186, M273.9), 73K miles

Fuel pump control unit was damaged due to water intrusion from a sun roof drain leak. The fuel pump control unit R&R was simple enough but EPC and WIS both indicate that the replacement control unit needs to be coded to the chassis.

My local dealer's service advisor stated the control unit should function straight out of the box without the need for coding. And... it does. Simply plugged in the new control unit and the engine fired up promptly. Vehicle runs flawlessly and no stored or pending fault codes have been captured during subsequent SDS scans.

But when the "FSCU-Fuel pump Drivetrain CAN bus specified/actual configuration" is queried, the scanner returns "Not Present" for the Specified CAN configuration and "Present" for the Actual CAN configuration.

So... should this fuel pump control unit be version coded to the vehicle? Is it safe to drive the vehicle in the interim? Have nothing against version coding, its just that the earliest I could secure a service appointment is 3 weeks away.

Any input?

Vehicle has been running flawlessly; fault code checks of Fuel Pump and ME control units reveals no stored or pending fault codes.

Senior tech at the local dealer states the coding needs to be done but no one seems to be aware of any adverse events if this version coding is not performed. Am concerned that a limited number of start attempts are permitted before permission to start is no longer granted.
