Factory Alarm Remote Buttons??????

My car has a factory alarm, but I have no idea exactly what the two buttons on this remote actually do.

I assume one UNLOCKS and the other button LOCKS, but not sure. It did some odd things when I tried each button, but i'd like to know for sure! THANKS.
