722.6 Solinoid Dust Covers
The 722.6 Conductor Plate has 2 "Dust" Covers to help the flow of ATF to the Solinoids. When I replaced my Conductor Plate I found the 2 covers missing and assumed a previous trans service neglected to put them back. Now I am wondering if all 722.6's came with the Dust Covers and if I should leave mine off?
I ordered one from MB and installed it (one is NLA) and the Valve Body/Conductor Plate assy went back in without any trouble. Now I'm wondering if I should have put the dust covers back on? I can't see how fitting the cover would cause damage but I'd hate to find out the hard way the covers were left off for a reason. Any ideas? Maybe I'm over-thinking this issue? TIA 2006 E350AWD |
The covers were installed to prevent the exhausting oil from foaming the oil dribbling downwards from the rotating assembly.
You can probably find them at an oldschool transmission shop - ask for them not for mercedes but for dodge charger/magnum or old jeep cherokee etc. they use the same transmission as our cars. |
