Catastrophic failure.

Good evening,

My 1995 W124 E450 V8 suffered a catastrophic failure when a motor mount broke. The engine torque that followed in an acceleration, rotated the engine in such a fashion that the fan blade rotated and sliced the radiator causing immediate loss of fluids and requiring all kids of repairs.

I have managed to replace all the mangled parts and am waiting for a set of mounts that should be here soon.

My question...has anyone experienced anything like this?

My E320s never.

And is there anything else that anyone knows about that I should be looking forward to happening again.

Thank you in advance.

Catastrophic indeed! Usually a broken motor mount is associated with the rubber portion collapsing. In your case, it seems that the bolt connecting the mount to the engine broke or loosened, or the smaller bolts holding the mount to the frame did the same. Or the rubber portion cracked enough to allow the large bolt to have just enough slop to allow the engine to move that much while under torque.

I would also scrutinize the transmission mount.

Usually there are symptoms of a problem which will provide a warning so this could be avoided.....no warning symptoms?

Check transmission mount as suggested and the flex disc at the same time.

Good luck!!!
