190e w201 auto not going into forward

Hello and hope all are well


I have a problem with my 1992 190e,w201, Auto 1.8


Up until a few weeks ago was running fine. Now will only go into reverse and not into forward.



Before I go down the road of having a replacement auto gearbox or the existing gearbox rebuilt, anyone have any ideas if it could be something not as serious as a full gearbox replacement.

Check the fluid. Also, can you try shifting to 2nd or 3rd? Will it move forward from there? I've heard of the reverse failing, but usually not the forward gears. Could be something with the valve body also.
