1999 SL500 push button replacement codes?

Hello everyone. New to The forum. Excited to see all the enthusiasts. I have a 1999 SL500 convertible. I had to change out the entire push button replacement center console unit. Found the part was able to get it in easily. Problem that I'm having is it needs a code to be programmed into the unit. Since the car is so old. I have not found anyone outside a Mercedes dealer. That knows what to do here.?? If anyone can help me with this it would be greatly appreciated as this is my mother's car. I am trying to get it fixed for her. It is over a hundred degrees where I live. And the air conditioning keeps going on and off. Because this code has not been programmed into the new unit. Also the old unit that I had taken out. They want a code to be put into that unit? But with no explanation of where to get the code? I am really desperate for help at this point. She cannot drive the car because of the extreme heat and her age. I have already paid the mechanic to do the job. But he is telling me his computer does not know what to do? So I'm very frustrated and upset. I just want to get the car fixed from my mom who is 78. Thank you in advance to anyone that could help us out. Can someone please help here? I can't believe no one has this information?? I really need the help she cannot drive the car in the extreme heat here. And I just need to know a simple code. Can someone please help me out?? Or am I in the wrong section?

Hi Jetski1998,

It sounds like you will likely need to use a factory Mercedes scan tool. Unless you find a specialty shop in your area with one, you may unfortunately be stuck paying for the dealer to do it. You should be able to contact your local dealer to get further explanation of what code they need.
